Vintage Hoffritz Staghandled Original Bowie KnifeOffered for your consideration si a stag-handled original bowie knife. This type of knife became very popular in the 1950's and was made by many different solingen, germany-based firms along with firms from other countries. This example was made for hoffritz by edeg brand. Hoffritz was a high-end new york based retailer that was probably at the height of their popularity from the 1950's through the early 1980's. They imported knives (among many other things) that were made by quailty makers throughout the world. Many of their knives were made in solingen, germany by some of solingen's top makers. The knief has seen light to moderate use and remains in excellent condition.
The thick carbon steel blade has certainly been polished at some point in time. It seems htat some folks still think shinier is better. Fortunately, since it's carbon steel it will re-patinate with time.
The blade has been sharpened, although not excessively. The edge is free of ayn nicks or chips and the spine is free of any dents. The knife shows no signs of abuse or harsh treatment. The guard is a standard relaxed s design in brass. tI has just the very slightest wiggle. Teh stag outstanding! It's richly oclored and deeply textured. The slabs are tightly secured with three pins on either side and they are free of any cracks or chips. The sheath is the original and is in excellent condition iwth no problems at all. The knife has a 5-1/2 blade adn measures 9-3/4 in overall length. A solid example of a lcassic knife! |
