Vintage Alcoso German Stag Hirschfanger Dagger Knife

Vintage Alcoso German Stag Hirschfanger Dagger Knife

Offered for your consideration is a vintage german hirschfanger from alcoso. Alcoso was a solingen firm onwed by alexander coppel. They made several varieties of daggers and other edged weapons for the german military during wwii. This if the first knife of this type that i've seen from them and its design is a bit different than most hirshfangers of this era. These knives were traditionally used by egrman hunters to both hunt and dispatch wounded game.

This example bears the alcoso marks and is simply marked solingen, indicating that it was not made as an export knife. That is a bit unique, as many of the hirshfangers from this era were made specifiaclly for export to primarilty the u. S.

Market. The knife is well made and in excellent condition showing no signs of use, carry, or sharpening. The tri-planed blade has a needle-sharp tip and was nicely done.

Instead of the traditional clamshell guard with acorn quillions, this picee has a highly polished brass guard in a relaxed s configuration. The connstruction of the handle is quite unique and the first i've seen fo it's type.

Behind the guard are three spacers of stacked leather and a long ferrulle of the type usually found on jagdnicker knives. The handle is of stag and features a beautifully carved bull elk at full run. All handle components are tight and problem free. The pinned pommel cap is completely tight.

Most of the later hirshfangers that i've owned featured threaded tang construction with a pommel nut, but this piece is built like a standard german jagdnicker. The blade is 10-1/8 long, while the knife measures 14-1/2 overall. There is on scabbard with this knife. An unusula example of a classic german knife!
