Unusual Antique Crown Stag Finnish Puukko Knife

Unusual Antique Crown Stag Finnish Puukko Knife

Offered for your consideration is a unique antique custom puukko knife. This knife appears to have begun life as a high-quality puukko and was later modified to its current form. This modification looks to have been done a very long tima ago. At first i though the blade had been modified as the tang is partially visible at the bolster junction. However, hte blade appears to be the original shape and configuration. The fuller is well centered and had the blade been shortened or modified, this would not be the case. This blade is of exceptional quality adn probably dates to the early 1900's. The blade was hand forged and was very likely zone tempered.

They just don't make them like htis anymore! If you're a knife collector, enthusiast, or just appreciate a high-quality, well-made knife and you haven't had the pleasure of owning a classic finnish knife, you owe it to yourself to have at least one example of these fantastic knives.

These nkives are almost always of exceptional quality and their performance and durability are rarely matched. They are exceptionally versatile knives that were usually made by highly skilled rcaftsman whose skills were passed down through the generations.

Most older examples feature hand forged blades that were znoe tempered. The basic design design of the puukko lends itself to exceptional versatility and a real all-purpose knife. This is a very unusual adn unique example. The knife has seen moderate use and remains in excellent condition. The thick carbon setel blade was beautifully forged and is completely unmarked. The blade has been lightly sharpened and is free of any significant corrosion or pitting. The edge is free of any incks or chips and there are no heavy grind marks or sharpening marks. The balde geometry is exceptional and is and somewhat unusual with crisper lines than normally seen on a puukko blade. It almost looks to have some norwegian or swedish influences. The tip is more up-turned than normally seen as well. The knife shows no signs of abuse or harsh treatment.
These knives were very well made and meant for hard work. The bolster has a two old splits as shown, although it remains completely tight with no looseness or wiggle. The handle is of nicely aged and traditional curly birch, but that's where the tradition ends. The handle is capped with a beautiful section of crown stag which is certainly not a traditional puukko handle material. The stag was nicely shaped to align nearly perfectly with the birch.
The entire knife is tight and solid with no wiggle or rattling anywhere. hTe blade is 3-1/2 and the knife measures 9 in overall length. I'm not sure if the sheath is original to the knife or not, but they've certainly been together for a long time and it does appear that the sheath was made for the knife. The sheath is beautifully aged and problem-free. The leather is a soft as glove leather and there's no dryness or cracking at all. A very unique and unusual one-of-a-kind puukko!
