Old Fox Stag Grip Dag Indian War Dagger Cw Bowie Knife What if a 'mountain man' took a liking to an indian trade 'dag'? . Would he do it up like thisin buckskinner style! You are bidding no an older reenactors -one of a kind 'rendezvous' stag grip dagger. An unusual one for the fur trade / rendezvous era reenactor!
This 'hand-made' has a great look & vintage 'trade dag' style. The blade si a bit over 8 long, and 2 wide! It has a double edge. The edges are clean. hTe blade itself is age darkened, with some small areas of fine pitting. The forged blaed is 'panelled' on the right sideand also sharpened on the right side. The left side is 'flat', and marked near the center 'fox'. There is a heavy brass guard that is slightly concave on teh grip side.
The grip has a good look. A big hunk of stag! The stag si nicely textured. hTe grip & blade are solid & secure. Very confident 'feel' in the hand!
The crown stag pommel is smooth. It wolud be perfect to polish-up & scrimshaw. Overall length is a bit over 13. The balance point is about an inch ahead of the guard.
It would be a proper looking 'companion' for the fur-trade thru indian war era reenactor. And a fantastic knife for the 'liver-eatin johnson' mountain man! A 'one-of-a-kind dagger' like this would be perfect for the collector of 'interesting' knives too!
Why do i use the term 'reenactor knife'? Because that is who i got them from over the years! We live in a history rich area of the upepr mississippi riverfur trade activity dates back to the 1600s! Historic reenacting has been active for over fifty years, and 'interesting' knives have been a big part of it since the start. Many old original knives were used ta first.
Others utilized rebuilt older blades, or blacksmith handmade copies. Few were marked, and all haev a nice 'patina' by now!
I don't do 'carbon dating', and i'm not good at tall tales. So -for me-they are all 'reenactor knives'. I thought they were 'neat' when i swapped or boguht 'em. And that was good enough. As usual, a low start & no reserve.
