Amazing Roy Carter Custom Damascus Ivory Dagger KnifeOffered for your consideration is an amazing ahnd made custom ivory dagger from roy carter. The blade is absolutely stunning and the work of noted artist, blacksmith, and damascus maker matthew walker. Walker applies his artistic talent and smithing skills to create some of teh finest and most beautiful damascus available. Walker's blades are used by several highly regarded makres including canadian maker stephen vanderkolff and maker henry noel. His damascus is forged from 15n20 and 1084 high carbon steel. It is of very high contrast and he creates some truly incredible patterns. Walker owns experiments in metal, inc. And his work, his coal-fired forge, and examples of several knives from these makers, can be viewed at his website. He is incredibly talented and one of his blades on a vanderkolff custom graced the cover of the 2007 knives annula book. This knife has very unique design and look. I really didn't hwat to call it. It has a somewhat medietrranean or old-world spanish look to it. The design really works and sets this knife apart from the many customs that look like the same knife from different makers. Carter is an old-school craftsman of amazing talent. He is probably most noted for the hand made muzzleloaders that he creates. He is very well known and hihgly regarded among the black powder circles, although i've heard that he never sought publicity and basically made when and if he felt like it. As far as i know, carter was never a guild member as word of mouth advertising basically kept him as busy sa he wanted to be. He has been making guns and knives for half century and i've recently heard his health is such that he is no longre making knives, although he's still doing some engraving. Carter does all of his work fere hand and his engraving and file work are simply exceptional. He used to make his own blades and even made damascus, but i suppose his age and health issues may have been the factor that turned him to walker's damascus. With this knife, i'm not sure if carter or walker actually ofrged the blade. Whcihever is the case, the result amazing. This knife is simply incredible! hTe damascus is really beyond my abilities to adequately describe and is right up there with the finest i've seen. Although the blaed geometry doesn't show well in the photos, the blade has a gently sloping profile and a large top bevel along the first two-thirds of the blade. The blade has a very sligth drop-point effect from the bolster and the tip actually rides on a line that is just below the top of the bolster. It's these kinds of subtle design elmeents that really set this maker above the crowd. The blade also features some beautiful file work on the spine. The high contrast damascus si simply aglow with mesmerizing patterns. I'm not sure what this damascus pattern is called, but it's a series of seven concentric circles akin to the ripples caused by dropping a stone in calm water. It's stunning effect and really sets this knife apart from plain damascus.
The overall design, quality and craftsmanship of the knife are absolutely outstanding. This is a knife that must be handled, examined, and admired to fully appreciate teh scope of its artistic impact. The knife's design flows beautifully and rpesents a refined elegance.
The long bolsters are of thick brass. The handles are of thick, creamy pre-ban african elephant ivory. The balance and feel are excellent as well and the knife has a very natural and very solid feel. hTe balance is perfect with the balance point being directly under the bolsters. hTe knife offers exceptional control and truly feels like an extension of one's hand. The blade is 5-1/8 and the knife measures 9-3/8 in overall length. Teh sheath is the original and was custom made for this knife by carter. It is of nice excellent and is in perfect condition.
The knife has never been used, carried, or sharpened and is ni perfect condition. The blade is razor-sharp and will shave with little effort. If you appreciate the finest in premium quality custom knives and/or enjoy knives with a strong artistic element, this piece is an heirloom-quality knife that should receive oyur consideration. It's a one-of-a-kind knife with that richly exhibits what owning a high quality custom is all about. Another amazing custom knife that graphically illustrates the art of both damascus making and knife making!
